Access Denied episode 3: Representation

This five-part series is a comprehensive effort to explain the racial discrimination Black Americans face in our financial system. I was the editor of this series and worked closely with the creators to develop an efficient recording and organizational workflow. We won a Neal Award and Azbee award for best podcast.

This is episode 3: “Representation.”

The hurdles faced by Black professionals who break into the financial services belie the notion that their small numbers at the industry’s top ranks are a pipeline problem.

The lack of Black representation in the financial services stems from two interconnected problems. Black professionals face significant hurdles once they break into the industry. And the presence of nearly 175,000 Black financial professionals displays that their widespread absence at the upper executive ranks isn’t a product of there being an insufficient talent pool.
